WW3: US Top General On North Korea: 'Stand Ready For War'

Donald Trump's senior US General has told the US Army to "stand ready" for war with North Korea as fresh fears of an impending world war three looms.

General James 'Mad dog' Mattis said it is "impossible" to foresee what the how tensions between the US and North Korea might develop but has urged US troops to prepare for a possible confrontation with Kim Jong-un.

General Mattis said even though the Trump administration is actively looking to find a diplomatic solution, the US army must "stand ready" to fight.

General Mattis said: "It is right now a diplomatically led, economic-sanction buttressed effort to try to turn North Korea off this path.
"Now what does the future hold? Neither you nor I can say, so there is one thing the US Army can do.

"And that is you have got to be ready to ensure that we have military options that our President can employ if needed."

The Express reports: Although he added the future is unpredictable, Mattis again said the effort to stop North Korea was diplomatically led.

And he touted the United Nations Security Council's recent unanimous votes to impose further sanctions against the rogue country for its belligerent behavior.

He said: "The international community has spoken, but that means the US Army must stand ready. So if you're ready, that's your duty at this point in time."

Donald Trump repeatedly has made clear his distaste for dialogue with North Korea, recently dismissing the idea of talks as a waste of time.
And Mr Mattis' comments today come as Donald Trump tweeted again about ongoing tensions between the US and North Korea over the weekend, saying that giving the country billions of dollars over the past 25 years did not work.
Having already warned he could “totally destroy”, Mr Trump tweeted: “Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid hasn't worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, makings fools of US negotiators.

“Sorry, but only one thing will work!”
Tensions have reached building point between Washington and Pyongyang after a series of reckless nuclear tests.

In recent weeks, North Korea has launched two missiles over Japan and conducted its sixth nuclear test, all in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions.

And it is thought the hermit kingdom may be fast advancing toward its goal of developing a nuclear-tipped missile capable of hitting the US mainland.

The US President threatened to “totally destroy” the regime in a hard-line UN speech, warning his military had many options on the table over how to dealing with the rogue regime.

And US troops have staged several drills in South Korea in preparation for a potential attack from the North.

While chubby despot Kim Jong-un responded by labelling Trump a "rabid old dog”, as he asserted his country’s supposed ‘right’ to developing nuclear weapons.

Today Russia and China called for restraint on North Korea following the US President ’s warning.

When asked what Russia made of Trump's comments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "Moscow has called and continues to call on the parties involved in the conflict and on those who have anything to do with this issue to exercise restraint and to avoid any steps that would only worsen the situation."

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying repeated China's position that all parties exercise restraint, describing the situation as extremely complex and serious.
